BUILDING SOCIETAL HARMONY, PEACE, AND RECONCILIATION (CA-2008– continuing):

  • In collaboration with 14 partner NGOs established in the region, VICALP was actively involved in promoting peace and providing help to the victims of the December 2007 communal disturbances in the districts of Kandhmal, Kalahandi, and Gajapati. In the districts of Kandhmal, Gajapati, and Kalahandi, this peace-building and reconciliation initiative involved and engaged affected communities in 1194 villages across 80 Gramme Panchayats of seven blocks. Its goal was to ensure communal harmony and promote greater alliance and coexistence between the traditional ethnic communities. Development elements of the intervention have included making government development plans and programmes accessible and guaranteeing the benefits of MGNREGS, FRA, and other welfare programmes.
  • This program is continuing in Gajapati district in 100 villages through a partnership of Ten NGOs under the guidance of an umbrella NGO named SWAD. The program adopts peace centric development as the central theme in its developmental activities besides actively promoting events and organising field level community meetings and workshops on peace, harmony and collaborative living.
